Maria Skobeleva was born in 1989 in Moscow. She studied classical ballet and got inspired by Anna Pavlova, she devoured David Lynch’s films and listened to 2Pac Shakur non stop — all of that helped to shape Maria’s style. In 2008, she enrolled to Moscow Architectural Institute, and as a student there she started painting intensively.
There’s a strong presence of feminine aspects in Maria’s works — some sort of sadness and drive, soaring. The artist expresses her idea of love sacrifice using cold hues and red splashes. The abstract works of Maria are imbued with romantic sentiments, as if they are charged with some special energy. Her 2020 works contain themes of mutual love and motherhood; the warm and gentle colours and soft strokes of her paintings envelop a viewer, physically immersing him in Maria’s art.
